Reviews: This Side of Paradise ( HellaRecords 1998 ) FortitudeWebzine 8,5 / 10 TheGatesofHell.org 3,5 / 5 Soundi |
TheGatesofHell.org Four bars of slow, majestic synth open this cd before the rythmn guitar crunches in, with short repeated lead guitar licks, all very Children of Bodom like. In fact the song itself sounds very CoB - mix of crunching guitars, old school drums mixed with death/power metal fils, all with backup keyboards. The vocals even remind me a little of CoB, but there is less of a comparison here. They get low and gutteral, and then switch for the full black screech. There's even some chorus vocals in there, just before the synth windchimes begin. The songs are all mid-paced, and, all very good. The second track has a bass line that reminds me of the intro to Kataklysm's "The Awakener", but this might be my imagination. This is a good release of three doom/power/death/black/traditional metal track that is worth looking out for. 3½ / 5 AzagTh0tH |
