Metal Invader ELENIUM are one of those bands that make a serious attempt to take Scandinavian death metal (Finnish in their case) one step further. I guess they grow up listening and paying tribute to bands such as AMORPHIS, DARK TRANQUILLITY, LAKE OF TEARS, IN FLAMES and many other similar acts. This is evident in their sound, which is characterized by the melodic guitar work, the mellower passages and the general forward thinking arrangements. Of course all these are combined with the older traditional European death metal framework (needless to say what this is). Keyboards and a kind of rockier approach (at certain points, not through out the album) also assume significant roles herein. Generally speaking ELENIUM appear as a newcomer with great potential, more or less sounded as less commercial IN FLAMES. If what can be called as ‘progressive death metal’ turns you on then you should make yourself a favor and check this album out. You might discover your next favorite band. 3,5 / 5 Elias Ritsios |
