Into Obscurity

Rage Of Achilles have found themselves another Finnish melodic death metal band that are in a league of their own. Elenium are exceptional musicians who incorporate the heavier sounds of a band like At The Gates with the more melodramatic styles of Evergrey. It's like melodic metal with progressive elements and some extremely wizardous guitar licks. The vocals range from the throaty screams to clean singing with a Viking feel. A keyboard is used, at times, playing more classically in some songs ("Impostor") and at other times, sounding more paranoid ("Nameless - Faceless") like some eerie level of a Nintendo game. The song "Nameless - Faceless" also has a cool chugging guitar line that is really catchy. The production here is really crisp and clean, which also helps a band that has as much going on in their music as Elenium do.

Elenium don't play by the rules. They do share elements with that "Swedish" style that has sort of become the trend as of late, but they do it on their own terms. It's obvious from "For Giving - For Getting" that this band play what comes from their hearts - not what is going to get them the most attention.
